“He wouldn’t have liked it.” Phillips raised his eyebrows as he fixed Rosetta’s gaze.

“Because they prove he was violating a restraining order.”

“It means,” Phillips said, “that he was not allowed within a hundred yards of number three, Cobham Court, or anywhere within a hundred yards of his ex-wife.”

“The ex-wife’s name isn’t Azaria by any chance, is it?”

“Put your telephone away, Salvatore. Another day you can teach your old-fashioned mother to be part of this century,” the Old Man said. “We have Angelo’s case to plan, now that we know our Marie will come home for her school night.”

Salvatore closed his phone and turned to his brother. “So have I got this right? Mama BearWigmore is worried that Papa Bear Wigmore taught Baby Bear Wigmore to cut holes in roofs for purposes of burglary?”

“Yes,” Angelo said, “and she wants us to find out if that is what happened.”

“Why is this a detective case?” Mama asked. “In this modern century with telephones so small you can lose them the mother can talk to the son any old time.”

“Mrs. Wigmore would happily ask Keith. However, Baby Bear doesn’t talk to his mother.”
